Ablutophobia and the Irrational Fear of Bathing
Ablutophobia and the Irrational Fear of Bathing More in Phobias Types Causes Symptoms and Diagnosis Treatment Ablutophobia, or fear of bathing,?? is a relatively uncommon but serious phobia that appears to be more prevalent in women and children. Yes, many children demonstratively dislike baths, but a phobia is different. If your healthcare provider is following the new American Psychiatric Association guidelines, she is unlikely to give an ablutophobia diagnosis unless the extreme overestimation of danger persists for more than six months. Ablutophobia, like all phobias, is an anxiety disorder. Its clinically known as a specific phobia, which is an excessive or unreasonable fear of an object or situation.?? It can manifest in many ways, from a fear of showering to a complete phobia of all washing. Causes of Ablutophobia Like all specific phobias, a traumatic past event is the commonly the trigger for ablutophobia,?? although you may or may not consciously remember it. How did you get ablutophobia? A traumatic past event may have happened to you, a relative or even someone in a movie or television show. For example, some horror film fans claim to develop a fear of showering after seeing Alfred Hitchcockâs Psycho. This anxiety disorder can also develop from other peopleâs fears. If a parent or close relative had the same fear, you might have internalized that personâs reactions in childhood. Many kids try to avoid bath time, whether due to fear or simple preference. It is possible that your childhood aversion may have carried over into your adult life. Complications of Ablutophobia Cleanliness and hygiene are some of the top priorities of the modern world and failing to take a daily shower can cause you to look or smell âunclean,â which is generally considered unacceptable. Not washing regularly can have negative consequences, such as: Problems at work or school and in your personal relationshipsIsolation, possibly leading to social phobia or even agoraphobia??A higher risk of developing body image disorders In addition, personal hygiene is a first step toward avoiding illness.?? Allowing dirt and bacteria to remain on your skin and hair for long periods could elevate your risk of both common and rare diseases. This is particularly true if your phobia causes you to avoid hand washing after using the restroom or when preparing food. Treatments for Ablutophobia Like most specific phobias, cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques are frequently part of a treatment plan for ablutophobia.?? Your therapist will probably encourage you to examine your fear and replace your negative self-talk with more appropriate messages. She might give you homework assignments that involve taking baby steps such as turning on the shower and sitting in the bathroom with it running. The goal of therapy is for you to practice relaxing and using your newly learned self-talk to soothe your fears while slowly confronting the object of your phobia. If you are extremely anxious, your physician may prescribe medications or suggest hypnosis to help you get the fear under control. Ablutophobia is highly treatable by trained professionals but nearly impossible to overcome on your own.

The Power of Personality in Toni Cade Bambaras The...
The Power of Personality in Toni Cade Bambaraââ¬â¢s The Lesson Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things that effect how people develop their characterââ¬âwhere they are from, which includes their financial status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambaraââ¬â¢s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors. Sylviaââ¬â¢s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Her parents not being around much leaves her without the attention and discipline that children need to develop to their fullest. Lastly, her friends and Miss Moore also have a great influence on howâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Because Sylvia does not recognize her own faults, it would be expected that someone else might see them and correct her appropriately. The problem though, is that Sylviaââ¬â¢s parents are always in a la-de-da apartment up the block having a good ole time, probab ly partying. Sylviaââ¬â¢s parents, mentioned infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with their daughter. This is represented in Sylviaââ¬â¢s behavior, for example, when she wants to steal Ms. Mooreââ¬â¢s cab money and run to the bar-b-que. Although most of Sylviaââ¬â¢s actions are conceivably wrong, it would be inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is impossible for any child to understand what is right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her. Sylvia was probably not disciplines growing up and so her judgment of what is right or wrong is based on her own opinions and her observations of what the other children in her neighborhood are doing. The children in the neighborhood are probably the most influential people in Sylviaââ¬â¢s life, since she is around them most frequently, and they are her peers. The Kraft Turn-Around Free Essays
The Oreo bicycle campaign in China was the idea of local managers, which Rosenfeld characterized as ââ¬Å"a stroke of genius that only could have come from local managers. â⬠She stated that local managersââ¬â¢ opportunities to address local conditions will be ââ¬Å"a source of competitive advantageâ⬠for Kraft. Do you agree? I believe that Rosenfeldââ¬â¢s primary goal in making these statements were aimed at strengthening her strategic thrust of enabling local responsiveness by strengthening Kraftââ¬â¢s values of supporting front line innovation, and empowering workers at all levels. We will write a custom essay sample on The Kraft Turn-Around or any similar topic only for you Order Now The Kraft China website lists these values in these words: We inspire trust. We act like owner. We keep it simple. We are open and inclusive. We tell like it is. We lead from head and the heart. We discuss. We decide. We deliver. (1) Could the Oreo-bike-wheel idea have possibly come from some other source? Yes, but they also say that give an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters and sooner or later, one of them will type the collected works of William Shakespeare. But if you do not have infinite resources and canââ¬â¢t afford to wait, using people who understand the local culture, history, habits, and trends will find something brilliant much faster than taking the infinite number of monkeys approach. Is using empowered local managers a competitive advantage? At this point in time I would say yes. But this is a time-limited advantage. More and more companies have found that expat management is not a high success percentage path. According to research by Black and Mendenhall (1990), 16% to 40% of expatriate managers terminate their overseas missions ahead of time due to poor performance or mal-adaptation. Furthermore, 50% of them are unable to return to their original positions because of poor performance (Black and Mendenhall, 1990). In addition, based on a study of more than eighty transnational corporations, researcher Tung pointed out that in more than 40 companies, 10% to 20% of expatriate managers were repatriated or dismissed due to their inability to effectively carry out assigned missions (Tung, 1982). Numerous studies have attempted to pinpoint the exact reasons for failure in order to develop solutions that counteract these problems, boosting success rates and developing strategies to avoid failure (Hall and Yeaton, 2008). In my experience, many multi- and trans- national companies put people on an expatriate assignment with little expectation other than they become acclimatized to the uniqueness of the local market. Especially in the Asia-Pacific region, I have seen many expats ââ¬Ëpay their duesââ¬â¢ on their way up the corporate ladder, but personally view their time abroad as an extended, company paid vacation. Could it be that companies see the long term value of this cross-cultural exposure has value well beyond any immediate performance during the expat assignment? Kraftââ¬â¢s strategy for future global growth involves a limited number of markets and products and focuses on going only where management believes the company can win a market share. How does this strategy align with Irene Rosenfeldââ¬â¢s restructuring plan? The restructuring described in the text certainly does appear reflect a strategy to focus on a portfolio including fewer product categories and markets. The worldwide restructuring includes encouraging mature market growth in addition to emerging markets where larger growth may be possible. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Rosenfeld noted 2008 figures of 3% growth in Europe, 5% in the US, and 28% in emerging markets (2). The strategy includes dropping certain product/brand types/markets and replacing them with others, eg. trading Post Cereals and Cream of Wheat for a the French cereal and cookie firm Groupe Danone. Ford Hospital Essays
Ford Hospital Essays Ford Hospital Essays Ford Hospital Frida Kahlo was a painter during the early twentieth century that used a frequent amount of symbolism in her pieces of work. This particular painting was created during the time that Frida and her husband, Diego Rivera, were living in Detroit, Michigan. Many of Fridaââ¬â¢s paintings portray numerous symbols that relate to her inability to produce children due to a bus accident that injured her reproductive organs. In the first image, one can see that the painting is a young Frida Kahlo lying in a bed with six images surrounding her and they all connect back to the woman. This arrangement ââ¬Å"closely resembles a Mexican retablo or votive paintingâ⬠(Esaak). The young woman in the painting is the artist Frida lying in a hospital bed right after her second miscarriage. One can see that the blood on the sheets around Fridaââ¬â¢s reproductive area may symbolize the recent miscarriage she has suffered. There is a small tear coming from Fridaââ¬â¢s eye that is barely visible; this represents the pain within Frida because she realized she will never be able to carry a child to term. The single tear seen in the painting coming from someone can also be found in pieces of work with Jesus Christ or a martyred saint (Esaak). The six images surrounding Frida are all connected to her and symbolize infertility in their own way. One of the major images someone will notice first in the painting is ââ¬Å"the fetus Dieguito, which means little Diego, who will never existâ⬠(Esaak). The snail in the upper right corner represents the slow and painful process Frida has had to endure through the miscarriages (Esaak). The medical instrument in the lower left corner implicates the medical procedures and impersonalityââ¬â¢s experienced by Frida (Esaak). There are two images that show ââ¬Å"a pelvis and the side view of a female anatomyâ⬠symbolizes the part of Fridaââ¬â¢s body that is broke and will not allow her to carry a child (Esaak). The last image, ââ¬Å"the orchid is real, a gift from Diegoâ⬠that simply illustrates his sympathy (Esaak). The fact that the orchid is wilted could represent the sadness that goes along with the loss of their baby. All of the images are connected back to Frida by an umbilical cord which symbolizes that all the images are related to Frida through this miscarriage (Esaak). The bed that Frida

Plurals and Apostrophes (Mostly) Dont Mix
Plurals and Apostrophes (Mostly) Dont Mix Plurals and Apostrophes (Mostly) Donââ¬â¢t Mix Plurals and Apostrophes (Mostly) Donââ¬â¢t Mix By Mark Nichol The apostrophe has three functions: To help indicate possession (boyââ¬â¢s), to mark contraction (itââ¬â¢s), and to convert a singular letter, number, or initialism to a plural. However, the mark has all but been relieved of duty in its third task. One of the few categories in which apostrophes are still retained for plural usage is when plurals of letters are concerned. In expressing how many times a letter appears in a word, for example, one would write ââ¬Å"There are five eââ¬â¢s in beekeeperâ⬠; it would be distracting to write ââ¬Å"There are five es in beekeeper.â⬠This style also applies to the expressions ââ¬Å"Mind your pââ¬â¢s and qââ¬â¢sâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Dot the iââ¬â¢s and cross the tââ¬â¢s.â⬠(Note, however, that in these idiomatic uses, contrary to the previous example, the letters are not italicized to indicate that they are being employed to refer to themselves.) However, legibility is not a concern when uppercase letters are concerned: No apostrophes are necessary in ââ¬Å"She received three As, two Bs, and one C on her report card.â⬠(Note that names of letter grades are not italicized.) But to avoid confusion, donââ¬â¢t start a sentence with ââ¬Å"Asâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Isâ⬠to refer to more than one uppercase letter; the resemblance to the words As and Is will distract readers. If plurals of both uppercase and lowercase letters are listed in reference to the alphabet, though, be consistent: ââ¬Å"The Tââ¬â¢s and rââ¬â¢s in his first signature differ from those in the second one.â⬠Apostrophes are unnecessary when referring to plurals of numbers. For example, the treatment of the number in ââ¬Å"I printed three 5s on a piece of paperâ⬠is correct, though when one is referring to any other use of the number than the numeral itself, it is better to spell out the word for the number: ââ¬Å"She gave him change in the form of three fives.â⬠When pluralizing a year, omit the apostrophe: ââ¬Å"They came of age in the 1990s.â⬠Use the mark with numbers only to indicate the possessive case, as in ââ¬Å"Check out this list of 1990ââ¬â¢s biggest hitsâ⬠ââ¬Å"Check out this list of the biggest hits of 1990â⬠would be better or to truncate a designation of a decade, as in ââ¬Å"They came of age in the ââ¬â¢90s.â⬠Until relatively late in the twentieth century, inserting periods after each letter in an initialism was customary (ââ¬Å"F.B.I.â⬠). Because placing a plural s immediately after the final period would be awkward (ââ¬Å"It was as if there were two F.B.I.sâ⬠), an apostrophe was customarily inserted before the s (ââ¬Å"It was as if there were two F.B.I.ââ¬â¢sâ⬠) not an ideal solution, but better than the alternative. However, now that these periods are almost universally considered obsolete (a few publications, most notably the New York Times, are holdouts), the apostrophe is superfluous and considered incorrect: ââ¬Å"It was as if there were two FBIs.â⬠(The Times, for the record, omits periods in acronyms, a series of letters that, unlike initialisms, are pronounced as words.)
